Emery's 4 year check up and Brantly's 2 month

So we got to go to the doctor today for the lovely checkups. I had talked to Emery earlier in the week about it and we discussed the fact that she would probably be needing shots. She was very nervous and kept telling me she didn't want to get poked and kept asking where they would do it and that she WOULD feel it and that it WOULD hurt. I kept reassuring her that i would hold her super tight and make sure that she was OK the whole time and that shots keep us healthy and safe from really bad things. I also told her that we could get ice cream from wherever she wanted afterwords if she was a brave big girl like i know she is. We talked about this several times throughout the week.

So today was the day we went to the doctor's...she had to get 4 shots...and i opted for the flu shot for her so the grand total being 5 shots...(i felt bad to give her another shot...trust me) She did great throughout her checkup and her stats for her weight are the 55th percentile and the 65th for her height. So that was good. She got to do an eye checkup as well as a hearing test both of which she did wonderful on and also had lots of fun doing. She didn't freak out at all when the doctor checked her heart and her ears and all that stuff. I think it's because she has a play Dr kit and also watches this show on Disney Jr. called Doc Mcstuffins.

Brantly also was pretty mellow throughout his check up. His stats are 100th percentile for weight and 95th percentile for height and 55th percentile for head size...big chunky baby.

Then along came the shots...cue dramatic music here

She came and sat on my lap and i took her pants off...she then noticed the shots on the counter and kind of started to squirm. I held her hands and snuggled her head on my shoulder she kept trying to bring her legs up to her chest to avoid it...she got 2 in her left leg. She started to whimper and was shaking uncontrollably...i turned her around and she looked at me and said i can't do this i can't be brave mom i just kept holding her and she kept shaking 3 in the right leg...and then i just held her for a bit and told her she did such a good job being a big brave girl and that i was sorry and that i was so proud of her.

Then it was Brantly's turn...Emery FREAKED! She went and stood behind this pillar in the room and was crying for her brother and kept saying i can't watch this i can't watch this Brantly only got 3 shots total 1 in his left and 2 in his right. He did NOT like it but i think it made emery cry harder than it made brantly cry...she was so sad for him...It was a horrible thing to experience her watching that...and him getting shots and her getting shots...It was all around traumatic for all of us i think.

One thing is for certain though emery is viciously protective of her little brother when she thinks he is hurting or if someone is doing something to him. I love that she has been such an amazing big sister to him. He loves her and she often can get him to calm down just by being all up in his face...he loves it. They love each other and that makes me so happy.

Anyways Emery got a jasmine sticker and a certificate to chick fil a for a free ice cream but she wanted ice cream from Arctic circle so that is where we went :) She got a chocolate cone in a cup and you bet she enjoyed every last drop of that.

They're both handling their shots pretty well. Emery of course being the little diva she is keeps telling me how much they hurt and that we cannot take of her band aids...So they will stay on for a while...I'm just glad it's all over and they're both healthy lovely kids :)

So today i am grateful for shots...they keep my babies safe from nasty things...even if they cry for only a few minutes...it's worth it
